Books into movies

Just wondering...a number of readers of When Pigs Fly have commented that my novel would make a funny movie. Does anyone out there have any thoughts about how to get my book into the hands of the right people in the movie biz?

The book has sold over 400 copies, which isn't too bad for a self-published book.

All thoughts welcome, whether wacky or wise.

From my understanding, it's a lot like publishing. You submit a screenplay or movie treatment of your story and if there is interest, negotiate the transferral of rights. I'd heard that for some networks on TV, they get something like several thousand submissions a year, and maybe 10-12 are picked up. I don't know the stats for movies.

I think, also like publishing, submitting to an independent studio would be the best bet. Or even more fun: find your own investors and produce it yourself! You can then go on the indy film circuit and do festivals. A bunch of my friends do this or work on projects like these.

Good question...one I'd like to have answers for also. Many friends have told us they think our book would make a good movie too.

I have a friend who is working on finding investors and producing her own movie but she's been working on it for quite a few years now without making very much headway.
